The Oki Islands UNESCO Global Geopark encompasses the Oki Islands: four inhabited and 180 small uninhabited isolated islets located in the Sea of Japan north-west of Shimane Peninsula.
The islands were created by vigorous volcanic activity from around seven to five million years ago. This dramatic geological history of this land islands has cultivated unique scenery, nature and culture.
The geopark is working hard to protect and raise awareness of this heritage for the sustainable development of the region. Why not make the journey to the Oki Islands and discover the rich nature and culture of the geopark yourself?
鳥取県と島根県の県境の沖に浮かぶ島々が隠岐諸島です。
隠岐は３つの島からなる島前と、島後からなります。最大の島である島後で一周が100kmくらいです。４島全体で約２万人が住んでいます。
現在の隠岐の地形の原型は、700万年前に始まった火山活動に由来します。この火山活動と、日本海の荒波は隠岐に複雑な地形を生み出し、その複雑な地形の上に、独特の生態系や歴史文化が成り立っています。
