Kanho Yakushiji is a Zen Buddhist monk and musician, born in 1979 and serving as deputy head priest of Kaizenji Temple (Myoshinji school of Rinzai Zen). Known as the “singing monk,” he has been producing the Heart Sutra Music series since 2017, blending traditional Buddhist chanting with modern musical expression.
With over 750,000 subscribers on YouTube and more than 100 million total views, his music has reached listeners around the world. Drawing from Buddhist teachings, he also writes original songs about the values we need to cherish in life.
He has toured throughout Asia, including China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, attracting over 10,000 attendees before the pandemic. Since 2022, he has resumed global performances, including a world tour in 2023 and concerts across Southeast Asia and Australia.
In 2025, he is set to perform in Macau and at a music festival in Taipei.
With a sincere wish to “reset the heart through music,” he continues to share the prayers of Buddhism in sound, from Japan to the world.

1979年生まれ。臨済宗妙心寺派・海禅寺の副住職。「歌う僧侶」として、仏教の読誦と音楽を融合した“般若心経ミュージック”を2017年より制作開始。これまでに多数のアルバムを発表し、YouTubeでは登録者75万人、関連動画の累計再生数は1億回を突破。
オリジナル楽曲も仏教の教えを基盤に「生きる上で大切にしたいこと」をテーマとして多数制作。アジアを中心に反響を呼び、2018・2019年には中国・香港・台湾を巡るアジアツアーで約1万人を動員。2022年以降は海外公演を再開し、2023年には初のワールドツアーも開催。2025年はマカオ、台北などでの公演を予定している。
「この音楽で心をリセットできるように」という想いのもと、仏教の祈りを“音”にのせて、いまを生きるすべての人へ届けている。
